Studies of Religion (SOR) II Religion & Non-Religion Practice Test

The Salvation Army exemplifies both a religious dimension and a commitment to social responsibility. Founded in the 19th century, it operates as a religious denomination within the Christian faith while also emphasizing humanitarian efforts. Its mission is rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ, advocating for social justice, compassion, and service to others, which reflects its religious foundation.

In addition to its spiritual mission, The Salvation Army actively engages in various social programs, such as disaster relief, homeless services, rehabilitation for those struggling with addiction, and community outreach initiatives. This dual focus on religious values and practical social action sets it apart from organizations that may prioritize one over the other.

Other organizations listed, while commendable, do not inherently possess a religious dimension. Amnesty International, for instance, is focused on human rights advocacy, Doctors Without Borders is committed to medical humanitarian aid, and UNICEF works specifically on children's rights and welfare, all without a direct connection to religious beliefs.
